Scenario: You acquired a list of prospects -- perhaps from a trade show or registrants from one of your forms -- and you would like to send an email to this group of prospects using a campaign.
Outcome: You will create a simple campaign that will send a one-time email to this list of prospects.
Steps:
- If needed, import your list of prospects into the database. For steps on how to import your list of prospects, click here.
TIP: When you import the list, you may assign a prospect category to your list of prospects, so that you can easily recall this exact group of prospects when building your audience lists for your campaign. An example name for your prospect category might be "Webinar_Invitation_list_May_2017". - Using the List Builder, define your target audience(s) that you would like to send the email to.
TIP: If you have imported a list and assigned your prospects to a Prospect Category from earlier, then you can use the Categories search as the criteria for your list. This search can be found under Prospect Fields > Categories within the menu on the left-side of the page. You can either drag and drop the criteria to the middle of the page or double-click on the field name itself.
Alternatively, you can type Categories in the text box that appears in the middle of the page to select the Categories criteria. - When you have finished defining your audience, save the list as a 'Static' type.
- Create an Email Message that you would like to send to your prospects.
- Create the campaign to send the email to your list(s) of prospects.
- Define your Start Action.
- Drag out an Email Action and place it after the Start Action. Configure the Email Action with your desired Sender and Email Message (from Step 4).
- When finished, click Save to retain your new campaign. The campaign should look similar to the one shown in the screenshot below.
- Use Test Mode to test the components of your campaign:
- Validate Campaign - Clicking this button checks all actions in the campaign to ensure that the minimum configuration requirements have been completed. If all requirements have been met, you will see a green 'OK' below each valid Action. If further configuration is needed for a particular Action or Actions, you will see red errors below the incomplete Action(s) with a brief description of the issue(s).
- Test Action - Click on an Action that you would like to test. When selected, the Action will turn blue. Next, click the Test Action button. The behavior of the Action will be applied immediately ONLY to the members of the Test Audience list. A confirmation dialog box will open displaying the effects of the Action upon each Test Audience member. All configuration settings and option logic will be applied to the Test Audience, so you should check to ensure that the appropriate test prospects received the appropriate behavior, based on prospect record details and tracking history.
