What are Action Rules?

Background

Action Rules are the configurable conditions that dictate how a Campaign Action will behave when it is reached by a campaign member during the flow of a campaign.  They are configured via the Action's Properties.

 

All Actions Have a Default Behavior

At a minimum, every Action has a default behavior. The default behavior is what will happen to a prospect when they enter an action. The steps for configuring the default behavior can vary from Action to Action, but in general, the application will display or prompt what you need to fill in, choose, or select as the default behavior.

 

Adding Logic or Conditions to Actions

In addition to the default behavior, you may also add additional Rules. When you add rules to an action, eTrigue will analyze the prospect details (field data and activity history) to see if the prospect matches the conditions that you specified in your rule. If there is a match, then eTrigue will use the behavior defined for that rule.

 

How to Add Rules

To add a rule, simple click Add Rule. The application will then add a new rule in that action.

From there, click on Add Condition to specify the criteria that eTrigue will use to determine if the prospect matches, and then configure that rule's behavior.

 

How Rules Are Prioritized

The most important thing to remember is that a campaign action will always perform its function a single time on a prospect. Once the action is applied to the prospect, the prospect moves into the next action in the campaign.

When a user adds one or more rules to an action, then eTrigue will process the action as follows:

  • If a prospect matches one or more rules in a single campaign action, then eTrigue will apply the behavior of the TOP-most rule.

  • If a prospect doesn't match any rules, then the behavior defined in the Default Rule is used.

    However, if the user toggles the default behavior to use this parameter:
When the above rule is not met, do the following
  1. No action is taken.
  2. The prospect increments the "No Action" statistic in campaign reporting.
  3. The prospect is released from the action.
