Introduction
Every pospect in eTrigue is assigned to a Prospect Status.
The Prospect Status governs how the eTrigue application interacts with prospects when sending emails is involved (e.g. Campaign Emails). The application will use Prospect Status to determine whether a prospect is eligible to be sent emails.
A prospect can only be sent emails if its status is Active.
If the status is Bad Email, Inactive, or Opt-Out, the prospect is not eligible to be sent emails. The application will make sure these prospects are not sent emails even when the user explicitly attempts to send them emails in a campaign.
More Information About How Statuses Work
Active - Prospect that is still eligible to receive emails. This status does not necessarily indicate website activity or participation in marketing campaigns. |
Inactive - This status is user managed only. eTrigue cannot set a record to this status. Changing a Prospect's status to ‘Inactive’ means that:
|
Bad Email - When eTrigue attempts to deliver an email, the destination server will either accept or reject the message.
If a mail server rejects the message with a bounce code that indicates a "hard" failure (e.g. "email address does not exist") within two separate mailouts, then eTrigue set the Status to "Bad Email" to make that prospect ineligible to receive future emails.
The ‘Bad Email’ status means that:
|
Opt-Out - A Prospect’s status is set to ’Opt-Out’ after clicking on an ‘Unsubscribe’ link in an eTrigue email, or when opted-out manually by an eTrigue User. The ‘Opt-Out’ status means that:
|
Note - The CAN-SPAM Act covers all commercial email messages.
Changing the status of someone who has opted out of your organization’s emails without their consent is a violation of your eTrigue agreement and the CAN-SPAM Act. Each separate email in violation of the CAN-SPAM Act is subject to penalties of up to $16,000.
To maintain the record of opt-out preferences, prospects with the status of Opt-Out should never be deleted from the DemandCenter database..
