Background
When managing prospect data, users might find the need to transfer or copy data from one custom field to another (new/existing) custom field. The best way to manage this data transfer is to use a combination of eTrigue's Export and Import tools.
How to Transfer Data Using Export/Import
- Go to Prospects > Prospect Search.
- Use our search tool to locate existing prospects that contain data in your target custom field.
For example, suppose you wanted to transfer data FROM a text field, you can select that field as the criteria and then use the "contain any data" search operator as seen below: - After search has found the prospects, view them by clicking View Prospects.
- Select all prospects in your result by clicking the top left checkbox in the prospect listing.
- Click Export List and then choose to export the following fields:
- Source
- Owner
- ( the custom field that you want to transfer data FROM )
- After your export has completed and you have downloaded the file, go to Settings > Prospect Settings > Prospect Fields.
Using the drop-down, verify that you have the custom field that you want to transfer data TO. If needed, click Add New Custom Field to create that field. - Once you have the export file, go to Prospects > Add Prospects > Import List of Prospects.
Import your exported file back into eTrigue. During the import process, make sure to map the column that contained your data with the new/existing field that you want to transfer data TO. - After the import has completed, verify that your prospects have the new data by going Prospect > Prospect Search. The most common ways to verify are:
- Selecting the new/existing field as your criteria and verifying that the results look correct.
- Repeat steps 1 - 3 from before and then visually inspecting the data by adding the fields to your view by clicking Select Display Columns.
- Selecting the new/existing field as your criteria and verifying that the results look correct.
